Nate's life is pretty weird. For one, there is a dead sailor inside his brain who likes to comment on the young man’s every move and thought. Forget that. That’s not even the crazy part.
Now he’s getting dragged into a curious plot by a woman claiming to be his unborn ancestor. Just what he needed more freaky stuff spoiling his chances of finding a boyfriend.
Still, things could be worse. Nate might be about to die under surprisingly bubbly circumstances and not even be aware of it. Oh well.
Jonen Gleewell's novel is a wildly entertaining read.

Mine Looks Purple makes me think of The Phantom Tollbooth, but for adults- a bizarre and highly entertaining road trip, through a surreal world populated by the most absurd of characters- and all providing a sizzling critique of the modern culture we live in.Memorable characters abound here. There's Nate Noodascue, the attractive hero who just wants some of that true love stuff and is clearly out of his depth with the whole saving the world thing. Jarrvis, the internalised sea pirate. Poledaris the zombie-like cretin who spouts boring, unassociated words and has no apparent redeeming qualities whatsoever. And most memorable of all, the bratty and fiery Sharminella- a six year old who has her own entourage and flats with Nate while pursuing her career as an ambitious beauty queen.
What wins me over most is Gleewell's incredibly witty sense of humour. There is wordplay and gags in here which are pure genius, which sometimes required me to put the book down to laugh out loud, then pick it up again and continue. He's a master of the funny, and his debut is colourful, jam-packed with oddities and a highly original read. I look forward to seeing what he does next!

It's a rather strange story but I have to say I kind of liked it.
Funny story with hilarious characters. I couldn't always follow what was happening but it's a an entertaining book.
